Free Beach Screening: La Bamba

Writer/Director: Luis Valdez | Producer: Bill Borden, Taylor Hackford | USA / 1987 / 108 min / Narrative

About the Film
NFF is proud to present with the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, a special free beach screening of the Golden Globe®-nominated La Bamba on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, in an evening including live music and a special conversation with star Esai Morales!
In 1958, 17-year-old Ritchie Valens (Lou Diamond Phillips) becomes an overnight sensation when his love song “Donna” rockets up the rock ‘n’ roll charts and shatters barriers for Latino performers. As he begins his first national tour alongside Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, Ritchie must navigate the impact of fame on his jealous half-brother, Bob (Esai Morales), his girlfriend and muse, Donna (Danielle von Zerneck), and the rest of his family. La Bamba powerfully celebrates the music pioneer’s life and tragically short career.

This non-ticketed event is free and open to the public.
