About the Film
Self-destructive rebel John Callahan wakes from an all-night bender to discover a car accident has left him a quadriplegic. To deal with this new normal, he draws support from an unconventional Alcoholics Anonymous group and channels his irreverent humor into a career as a profane and wickedly funny cartoonist. Based on Callahan's autobiography, this uplifting comedy-drama by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting) features a remarkable lead performance by Joaquin Phoenix with memorable supporting turns from Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, and Jack Black.
