About the Film
In the 1890s, headstrong Catherine Weldon (Jessica Chastain) defies social convention by traveling solo across the country from the safety of Brooklyn to the Dakota Territory to paint a portrait of famed Lakota leader Sitting Bull (Michael Greyeyes). Upon arrival, she meets resistance from both the fierce warrior and from the U.S. Army, which is controlling the region. Witnessing the deplorable treatment of the Native American community, Weldon refuses to back down, putting her at odds with Colonel Silas Groves (Sam Rockwell), who has his own dark agenda.
