A little girl (Cate Blanchett), born with a tail that expresses her emotions, discovers the pleasures and difficulties of being different in this striking 3D animation.
Simon Rippingale is a Sydney-based film and television director with a background in animation and illustration. He received an AFI nomination for Visual Effects as lead animator on Unfolding Florence: The Many Lives of Florence Broadhurst, directed by Gillian Armstrong, which screened in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Since then, Simon’s other credits include animation director and designer on the SBS film The 3G of Us, which was nominated for Best Foreign Animation at the Shanghai Magnolia Awards and screened in competition at the Annecy International Animation festival. He was also animation director on the ABC documentary Orchids, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2011 IF Awards. Most recently, Simon directed A Cautionary Tail, an animated short film starring Cate Blanchett, Barry Otto and David Wenham. As a freelance illustrator he has contributed to a diverse range of print publications including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Financial Review, Men’s Style, Reader’s Digest and The Diplomat.
