SYNOPSIS
RETZACH lays bare the tragic ramifications of vengeance through three intertwined tales of lives caught in the blind cycle of violence and retribution. The play received rapturous critical acclaim in Israel for its political courage and cultural poignancy, and in this production VOICETheatre's uniquely styled physical and vocal ensemble brings a distinctly modern vision to the age-old story of human frailty.

Show Information:
Written by Israel's most celebrated playwright, Hanoch Levin, and winner of 5 Israeli Theatre Awards including Best Play of 1998, RETZACH comes to 59E59 Theaters with a new translation by Liat Glick, Shauna Kanter and Tzahi Moshkovitz.
Levin was one of the most original and controversial playwrights of the 20th century. Levin based his artistic credo on a constant urge to criticize society and its mainstream ideology while simultaneously confronting the basic human and existential issues of life and death.
Directed by Shauna Kanter, Artistic Director of VOICETheatre, whose acclaimed production of PUSHING THROUGH was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition. Her production was one of the first theatre pieces ever to be developed and performed by Palestinian and Israeli artists together. She also received rave reviews in New York, London and Germany for her recent production of LEGACY, a music/theatre piece sponsored by the European Commission.
